Building owners need to apply for refund or remission of rate reduction within seven (7) days if their buildings are unoccupied.

If not, the remission shall be calculated with effect from the date of  receiving  the application by the office.

Procedures :-

  • In order to get refund on unoccupied buildings in line with the provision of Section 162 (2) of the Local Governments Act 1976 (Act 171) the building owner has to  give  written notice to the Council of such vacancy.

  • It must comply with the conditions stipulated under Section 162 (3) Act  1976.

  • Claim form for remission has to be returned within one month from the last date of the assessment term where  remission  is being applied for:
        First half year assessment period        -  01 January – 30 June
        Second half year assessment period    - 01 July – 31 December.

  • All Claim forms received after 30 June for the First half year assessment or 31 December for the Second half assessment are considered null and void.

  • Letters  pertaining to the remission  must be submitted to:

Supporting Documents

  • Real-Estate Agent Appointment Letter (If Available.)

  • Cuttings of Newspaper Advertisement (If Available)

  • A photograph of the said building (showing an advertisement that the building is up for rent or undergoing repairs or reconstruction)

  • A copy of the latest assessment rate bill

  • Form Remission Form
